Ramboll’s work on the Ivy City Climate Resilience Strategy has been recognized with a 2026 Merit Award for Community Impact by the American Society of Landscape Architects, New York (ASLA-NY) as part of the Chapter’s annual Design Awards program.

The ASLA-NY Design Awards celebrate excellence in landscape architecture and recognize projects that demonstrate outstanding quality of design and execution, climate and sustainability leadership, and positive impact on the profession. This year’s winners were selected by an interdisciplinary jury from around the country, with 23 projects receiving awards out of 80 submissions.

“We’re proud to be recognized for our work to increase climate resilience for the Ivy City community. The Community Impact award is especially meaningful for this project because of our collaborative and multi-disciplinary approach. The Ivy City Climate Resilience Strategy has a foundation in co-design with community stakeholders, supported by modeling of flooding and urban heat to meet ever-changing climate challenges and both the watershed and site scale.”

Developed by Ramboll in partnership with Washington, DC’s Department of Energy and the Environment (DOEE), Empower DC, and Moody Graham Landscape Architects, the Ivy City Climate Resilience Strategy addresses long-standing environmental challenges in the Ivy City neighborhood, which faces increasing risks from extreme heat, flooding, and severe storms.

The project combines technical analysis—including urban heat and flood modeling—with robust community engagement to co-develop practical, site-specific solutions aligned with community priorities. A key component of the strategy is the reimagining of Lewis Crowe Park, transforming one of Ivy City’s few green spaces into a multifunctional asset that helps mitigate flooding and extreme heat while improving recreational amenities and neighborhood livability.
